Venom is a spin-off in the Amazing Spider-Man series was announced by Sony and this along with Silver & Black will be set after The Amazing Spider-Man 3.

In December 2013, Sony issued a press release through the viral site, Electro Arrives announcing that two films were in development. With Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci and Ed Solomon writing a spin-off focused on Venom (with Kurtzman attached to direct). Hannah Minghella and Rachel O'Connor will oversee the development and production of these films for the studio. [5][6] According to Cinematallica, actor Finn Wittrock is the current front-runner for Eddie Brock/Venom and reports are saying that Alan Tudyk is up for Cletus Kasady/Carnage.[7]

Even though the sequels to The Amazing Spider-Man 2 were cancelled in February 2015 in order for Spider-Man to be introduced into the Marvel Cinematic Universe Sony has stated that they will be moving forward with their spin off films , meaning that Venom: Carnage and The Sinister Six will still happen. However, if the film is given the green light by Sony the story most likely will be rewritten in order to accommodate the new continuity.

In March 2016, it was announced that Sony is moving forward with a standalone film by hiring Dante Harper to write the script for the film with Arad and Matt Tolmach producing. The film will have no connection to the Marvel Cinematic Universe version of Spider-Man and will be set in its own continuity.[8][9] It was announced by Sony that the spin off will be release on October 5, 2018 with Alex Kurtzman directing the film.[10][11] In May 2017, Sony announced that Tom Hardy would star as Eddie Brock / Venom in the film to be directed by Ruben Fleischer.[12]

  • The working title for the film was Venom: Carnage.
